Participation in Ironman China is governed by the rules of CTSA and WTC as stated in Ironman China's published rules. It is the responsibility of each athlete to be familiar with these rules.
NEW! WETSUITS:
The current swim course water temperature is 22 degrees C. The water temperature is expected to rise between now and race day with rising air temperatures and decreased rain fall. Based on this data the wetsuit rule is as follows:
AGE GROUPERS - Wetsuits will be LEGAL unless there are extreme hot air and warm water temperatures. The race wants athletes to have the option to use wetsuits for safety and comfort reasons. However, see the note below and be advised that the race reserves the right to make wetsuit use illegal in the event of very high temperatures.
PROS - If the water temperature is 22 degrees C or above (very likely) wetsuits will NOT BE LEGAL.IMPORTANT NOTE: Our experience from last year and at other tropical races is that wetsuit use in hot conditions is a competitive disadvantage over the course of the entire race due to overheating and early dehydration. Speedsuits will be legal under any circumstances but, again, we encourage athletes to evaluate these suits in terms of overheating given race day water and air temperatures. The final call on wetsuits will be made by the Event Director, at the race briefing, on Saturday 13 March
